| Former WWE star Brock Lesnar out at UFC 131, Diverticulitis might end MMA career |
On Thursday, former WWE champion and current UFC 'top draw', Brock Lesnar announced at a media conference call that he was forced to pull out of his main event fight with Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131 due to another bout of diverticulitis according to MMAJunkie.com. Two years ago, Lesnar suffered his first bout with diverticulitis and ended up in the hospital for almost two weeks. Lesnar lost 40 pounds and doctors said his life was in jeopardy. Lesnar was able to overcome it, regain his health, change his lifestyle, and learn to live and fight with this condition.
Unfortunately, Lesnar started suffering from symptoms over the last few months and went to the Mayo Clinic to get checked out on Wednesday. His fears were confirmed as the doctors told him that the diverticulitis was back.
Lesnar is now faced with the real possibility of surgery on his intestines by removing the infected portions. "I am forced with the decision to either have surgery or deal with this for the rest of my life"
If he doesn't choose surgery, Lesnar can continue with his dieting and antibiotics and take the chance of this ailment coming back which is exactly what happened this time around. Lesnar declared that he has followed a strict diet and lifestyle since 2009 and it's incredibly frustrating that this condition came back. "I've been doing all the right things, so I thought. That's what's very depressing about this, and I feel really, really angry about it."
Brock also added that he's not retiring and will be back. Unfortunately, his desires and work ethic might not be enough to overcome this ailment to be able to compete at a championship level in the UFC. Brock closed the conference call by saying that he loved this sport and that this wasn't the end for him.
"I love this sport, and I love what I do. This isn't the end of Brock Lesnar"
UFC has officially replaced Lesnar with Shane Carwin at UFC 131 to fight Junior Dos Santos for the right to take on UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in late 2011.
